The announcement of a new small grants fund for churches and church halls has been welcomed by churches across the Church of England.  Hereford Diocese has received a total of £58,850, which it will give in grants of up to £10,000 to churches and church halls for small projects such as new LED lighting, pew heaters, insulation, or to update electric supply.  The grants will focus on small-scale but meaningful changes that could save larger sums in the long term. The fund will support churches to begin the journey as we move towards our goal of net zero by 2030.

The first application deadline is 8 November 2024. Parishes should have the necessary Faculty or other relevant consent in place before applying, and we do not accept retrospective applications.  Please ensure that you have completed the Church of England's Energy Footprint Tool before applying.  There will be further application periods during 2025.

Full details of the application process and guidance on eligible projects can be found on the environment pages of our website, and completed application forms should be submitted via email to Lorna Theophilus, Church Buildings Support Officer or telephone 07514 494 683

Lorna adds: "This is good news. I'm delighted that plans to release further funding grants for improvements in 2025.  Making small changes now can have a bigger impact in the years to come.  We cannot afford to ignore the climate crisis and taking action now helps us to protect these treasured buildings and our planet for the future."
