Organisers of FoodShare at St Martin’s Hereford have confirmed they are closing the service temporarily this Friday 31 October; a team at the diocesan office is stepping in to find a sustainable solution.
A spokesperson for the diocese said today: "Like many in the community, we are hugely disappointed to find out that the FoodShare at St Martin’s Church has needed to temporarily close at the end of the month. There has been an unfortunate set of circumstances which resulted in there being no one to manage the project, with the vicar leaving the parish and the volunteer project co-ordinator needing to finish for personal reasons. However, as soon as we were made aware of the situation ten days ago, a team at the diocesan office began working to try to put an interim solution in place and we are hopeful we will be able to keep the FoodShare going longer term.
"The success of FoodShare has meant that it has far outgrown the resources of a small parish church, and it is hoped that we can put a temporary project manager in place working with churches across the city to enable it to continue. This will need support from the local community, and we will also be organising a community meeting to agree on the scope of the project and gather support to take FoodShare forward so it can continue to support many more people."
