The Church of England has launched a campaign known as #PrayYourPart – to promote prayer and participation in the life of our nation and communities, both as voters and as citizens.
A series of daily thematic reflections written by bishops, drawn from the Bible and exploring major themes, will cover the final three weeks up to polling day. They are available as a booklet, in audio form for smart speakers, as free opt-in emails and through social media. Throughout the coming weeks, a range of Christian voters from across England will be invited to share what they are praying for the nation through a series of videos under the banner #PrayYourPart.
As part of encouraging Christians and others to engage in the democratic process, the Bishop of Hereford, The Rt Revd Richard Jackson, will chair an election husting event on Monday, 24 June, at St John’s Methodist Church, St Owen's St, Hereford HR1 2PR. All six local candidates have been invited to attend the event, which will be chaired by Bishop Richard.
The event is an opportunity for those of any faith and none to hear what candidates have to say on a variety of subjects. Doors open at 7 pm, with proceedings beginning at 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm. There will be an opportunity to hear from each candidate before question time. The event is free with limited seats, so people are invited to book in advance. The event will be broadcast as a livestream via YouTube
We currently have confirmed attendance from all six:
- Conservative Party – Jesse Norman
- Labour Party– Joe Emmett
- Liberal Democrats Party– Dan Powell
- Green Party – Diana Toynbee
- Reform UK Party - Nigel Ely
- Independent Candidate - Mark Weadon
The event will be chaired with set questions. There is an opportunity to submit questions at the point of booking (or later if you keep the booking link email). The Bishop, who will chair, will select questions from those submitted and invite the questioner to present it on the night. Questions need to be submitted by 1:30pm on Monday 24th June.
