Faith in Fostering is a promising initiative uniting Hereford Diocese and Herefordshire Council fostering team with a mission to find loving homes for children needing foster homes in the county. This partnership aims to raise awareness within Christian and other faith communities and inspire families to consider fostering as a powerful expression of faith in action – the care and compassion that is deeply woven into Christianity and is at the core of other major world faith teaching.

Wendy Coombey, Project Support Officer for Hereford Diocese, has been personally moved by the initiative. “Working on this project has opened my eyes to the scale of need for foster carers in our county. I’m keen to share this message with others,” she explains.

The Herefordshire Council fostering team is equally excited about the partnership. Katie Pullin, Fostering Recruitment and Assessment Team Manager expressed her enthusiasm: “We are delighted to be working with the Hereford Diocese on this new venture, the support is appreciated. This partnership brings fresh hope for fostering recruitment in the county, which is such an urgent need.”

The journey of one Christian foster carer was shared with the audience who attended an event held earlier in the week at the Bishop’s Palace in Hereford. They described how fostering has changed their family’s life. Their child contributed to the story by drawing a picture that symbolised the love and family they’ve gained through fostering.

Faith in Fostering is more than just a partnership—it is a call to action for the faith communities in Herefordshire. It shows Christ’s love for us all and encourages us to welcome the stranger as our friend by providing a safe and nurturing home for Herefordshire’s most vulnerable children.
