PCC Secretary

It is the duty of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to consult on matters of general concern and importance in the parish. An integral position within the Council is that of PCC Secretary, elected by parish members at the Annual Meeting.

Duties of the PCC Secretary include sending out notices of meetings in good time, preparing reports for meetings and keeping the minutes. They are also expected to deal with correspondence, keep a check on the parish diary, remain up-to-date with what is going on in the parish, and be able to brief the Chair of the PCC.

It is an important role that ensures the smooth running of the PCC and demands good organisational skills and efficient nature.

Stastics for Mission

After careful consideration and talks with some churches over the summer, the National Statistics Team have taken the decision to continue to collect Statistics for Mission this year. The form is a bit different, and we realise that there may be sections that are harder than usual to answer in this context. We’re keen to find out anything you can tell us, and your best approximation is fine if you don’t have precise numbers. Please don’t worry about anything you don’t feel able to answer. We also recognise that attendance at services held in church buildings will be impacted by social distancing and complex cleaning arrangements, so please be reassured that the data for 2020 will be used carefully by the NCIs and here at the office.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic many of our church buildings were closed for a large part of 2020. We recognise the huge upheaval that churches have been through, and the amazing creativity and resilience that churches have displayed in continuing to offer worship and pastoral support to their congregations and parishioners during this difficult time. We would like to celebrate and capture this through the Statistics for Mission 2020 form.  This form is not meant to be a burden to already stretched churches, and this year we would like to help with the completion of the forms as much as we can.

Please, if you feel you’re unable to enter the information online yourself, send the figures across to Sarah Bassett, email s.bassett@hereford.anglican.org and she will enter the information for you.

Statistics for Mission is very important to us as a Diocese because it helps us to measure our progress over the next few years. The data you provide is used in many ways in both our Diocese and nationally. Your statistics also form an essential foundation to discussions within Synod about the future of our Church.  96% of the returns were completed for 2019 so thank you for help in this part of the process.

To reduce mailing costs, we are encouraging you to submit your statistics online. The online system is now open and can be found at https://parishreturns.churchofengland.org If you already have a username and password, this can be used again, should you require a reminder of your details or would like a new username and password, then please contact Sarah Bassett on 01432 373300 or email s.bassett@hereford.anglican.org

When using the Online Parish Return System please do use the reporting tools included in the system to explore how your attendance and income/expenditure have shifted over the last few years. To help you to use this data in context the Research and Statistics Team in the Archbishops’ Council have produced Parish Dashboards, which have been emailed out during December 2020 to PCC Secretaries and Churchwardens.

The deadline for submitting the 2020 Statistics for Mission forms is 4th April 2021.

You can download a paper version of the form here: Click for PDF or Click for Word versions. We would encourage you to submit your data online. This year we will not be posting out the paper version unless the Churchwarden/PCC Secretary does not have an email address. If you require a hard copy posting please contact Sarah Bassett on 01432 373300 or email s.bassett@hereford.anglican.org
