We return to our meet-the-team series two minute interview. This week we chatted to Lorna Theopilus.
Lorna is a member of the Property team. She joined the diocese in 2021. Previously she worked in the charity sector as a Property Project Manager.
Lorna is married and lives with her husband, three primary-aged children, and a cat on the edge of Gloucestershire, not far from the Herefordshire border. She is an active member of her church community and Chair of Governors at her local primary school. In her spare time, Lorna enjoys reading and Zumba.
I: Hi, Lorna. Good to sit down and chat for a few minutes. Hopefully, you've seen the format of this type of interview so you know the type of questions we're going to ask. Here goes. Our first question is easy: What musical instrument would you most like to learn and why?
LT: The piano because it’s so versatile. I’ve had lessons in the past, but as a saxophone player, I find it difficult to play an instrument that has horizontal rather than vertical keys!
I: What is your favourite Book?
LT: My favourite book Is Jane Eyre. I originally read it for A Level and I’ve read it a couple of times since. I think it was so ahead of its time thematically and stylistically and I get annoyed when it gets reduced to being described as a romance novel!
I: What’s your favourite book in the Bible and why?
LT: Acts because I think it’s really interesting to see how the gospel was spread and how resurrection totally transformed the disciples. I also think it’s really helpful to see how the early church navigated issues and conflict.
I: Final question is the one we ask everyone - What do you enjoy about working at Hereford Diocese?
LT: I’m pretty sure this is becoming a clichéd answer by now, but it’s a great team of people. I’ve been here for under a year and everyone has been really welcoming and helpful and everyone really cares about what they do. Also, in my role, I get out and about quite a lot, visiting churches and it’s humbling to meet so many people who give so much time and energy to their local parish.
