Luke’s Gospel: A New Year in Preaching
Leominster Priory
This year’s lectionary gospel, Luke, shares much in common with the other ‘Synoptics’, Matthew and Mark, but has its distinctive contribution as well. Whilst apparently directed to a wider gentile audience, it still centres the gospel story on pious Jewish observance. It shares much of its shape with the other two gospels, but also includes unique teaching of Jesus, including many of our favourite parables and stories. And it has a distinct focus in issues of wealth and power and the role of women.
This study day will explore all these issues, looking at both broad themes and detailed texts, in order to help us read and preach Luke well in the coming year.
