Job Details:

Hereford Cathedral is looking for a diligent and experienced assistant to support the Head of Estates. Based in the unique and beautiful College Cloisters, the Estates Department is responsible for the maintenance and care for the cathedral and the wider estates, including tenanted properties. This varied role is a combination of operational and administration duties that will see you working closely with all areas of estates. Previous experience in office administration, book-keeping and estates work would be an advantage.

You will be an excellent communicator, liaising with colleagues, tenants, and work contractors to coordinate maintenance works on our properties. Your duties will take you out of the office to function as a key holder for our properties, meeting works contractors and undertaking property inspections. You will be confident as you deputise for the Head of Estates, including being responsible for communications with the Local Authority Planning Office, National Church Institutions, local businesses, and stakeholders.

You will have an elevated level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, in particular Excel. Under the guidance of the Head of Estates, you will administer, record and report on the Estates Department financial budgets. Your ability to be highly organised will enable you to create and maintain records of all maintenance works, contractors’ contracts, and assets registers. Your administration skills will also include planning and preparing for meetings, handling all formats of correspondence and document management.

The post is permanent and is subject to a six-month probation period. The appointment of the successful candidate is subject to the receipt of two satisfactory references, proof of right to work in the UK and will also require a satisfactory DBS check.

The working hours are 37.5 hours per week, generally Monday to Friday 09.00 – 17.00 but with occasional out of hours work in evenings or at weekends. Overtime is not payable but time off in lieu will be granted. The position will command a salary of £19,000 - £22,000 per annum depending upon experience, with an 8% non-contributory pension scheme.
