Diocesan Synod

We have 409 churches in 356 parishes divided between 13 deaneries within two archdeaconries and we are led by the Bishop of Hereford.

Our Diocesan governing body is Diocesan Synod.  All members and representatives listed in our structure can be contacted via the Diocesan Directory

The members of Diocesan Synod are the Bishop of Hereford, the Archdeacons of Ludlow and Hereford, the Dean of Hereford, clergy and lay members of General Synod, the Chairmen of the Boards of Finance and Education and the Diocesan Advisory Committee and the Chancellor of the Diocese.

Further members are elected by deanery synods, with up to 10 members nominated by the Bishop and a few places available for co-option. Elections take place every three years. Synod considers matters relating to our Diocese and to the Church of England, including matters referred to it by the Bishop or by General Synod.

The next election will be in 2024.
