Hereford Diocese learns of the death of Mr Stephen Borthwick, Chair of Diocesan Board of Education

It is with deep sadness that the Diocesan Board of Education shares the news that our Chair, Mr Stephen Borthwick Bsc FRSA, passed away suddenly on 16 December 2020.

The Rt Revd Richard Jackson, Bishop of Hereford said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear news about Stephen. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them.

It was a great privilege to work alongside him over the last few months in his role as Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education. Stephen was known and respected for his professional achievements where he taught in the independent sector at Marlborough College before becoming a Headmaster firstly of Aldenham School and then Epsom College where he created a new Epsom College in Kuala Lumpur. In addition to being the Chair of Board of Education, Stephen was a member of the Diocese of Hereford Multi Academy Trust, A member of the Diocese of Hereford Educational Trust, a member of the Bishop’s Council and he has held the role of Trustee Governor of Hereford Cathedral School. His long and distinguished professional career has spanned fifty plus years in the education sector. I would like to pay tribute to his huge contribution to shaping Church of England schools across the Diocese of Hereford."
