Being a Governor in a Church School/Academy - session 2 of 4

This course is open to all categories of Governors, Directors, Members and LAB members of church schools and academies.


4 X ONE HOUR SESSIONS (Session 1 on 1st December, Session 3 on 7th December and Session 4 on 9th December 2021)

All newly appointed Foundation Governors and Directors are requested to attend these sessions within the first two terms of their appointment or re-appointment if this course has not been attended in the last four years.

These sessions cover:

  • an understanding of the different categories of schools and the legal responsibilities of governors/trustees in these categories
  • have an overall understanding of church school governance including the role of the governor in new staff appointments, buildings and admissions
  • strengthening governance by challenging, monitoring and contributing to school leadership
  • consideration of current church school developments and the sharing of good practices and strategies
  • an understanding of RE, collective worship and SIAMS
  • opportunity to network with other church school governors.
